Hosting a Sushi Party? A Sushi Starter Kit is a Must
Eating sushi has evolved in recent years and more and more people are looking for ways to make it at home.
Buying a sushi starter kit is one of the best and most cost effective ways to get started. There
are many online stores that offer sushi starter kits some are just a bit more deluxe then others but they all have
the same basic items in their kits.
The Basic Sushi Starter Kit
Most of the manufactures of these kits include a bamboo sushi rolling mat. This mat is a traditional sushi
making mat which gives you the ability to roll and squeeze at the same time. This will give you a nice tight
finished roll. Next you have traditional sushi rice included in the starter kit. Another key component in a sushi
starter kit is chop sticks. Most kits have 5-10 pairs of disposable chop sticks included.
A staple in any basic sushi kit is soy sauce. Most kits have the soy sauce in a squeeze type bottle. Then you
have baran sheets which are also referred to as plastic sushi grass. Baran is used to separate different types of
sushi on a plate in a decorative way. Each kit is a little different but they all seem to add some sort of
flavoring. The different types of flavoring you can often find in a sushi starter kit are rice vinegar, wasabi
which is a powdered or pasted horseradish, or ginger which has been pickled.
Then top decorate and add additional flavor many kits offer such items as sesame seeds that have been roasted,
or a possible combination of white and black sesame seeds. Then there are some kits that offer a nice green tea to
complement your sushi, followed by some botan rice candy for a little after dinner treat. If you are planning a
party there are many kits that you can purchase that have all the necessary plating to properly enjoy your
sushi.
Sushi Starter Kit Place Settings
If you are hosting a sushi party then you are going to want your table setting to look like a traditional
Japanese setting. Many sites offer you the ability to purchase a complete setting which is made up of 12
components. A complete set include a large sushi dish, a soy dish, a rice bowl, sauce dish, soup bowl with spoon, a
sake bottle and cup, and a set of bamboo chop sticks with a chop stick rest. To give your table setting a finishing
touch they also include a sushi mat and matching napkin.
You can purchase these items individually but most companies offer them in a starter set. Buying them in a set
is the most cost effective way to do it and it also insures that you are able to get the correct amount of matching
place settings.
How Much is a Sushi Starter Kit?
Getting a basic sushi starter kit is inexpensive. You can find them starting at $10 and range
up to about $25. Make sure that whichever kit you purchase has a tip and recipe booklet included; this is very
helpful for a sushi newbie.
